The most cutting-edge surgical method for treating spinal cord injury is endoscopic spine surgery, or ESS. It is the most effective and often used minimally invasive surgical method, using just small incisions and tubes that range in size from 3 to 10 millimetres, depending on the size of the afflicted area. Compared to conventional spine surgery techniques, it requires less time for recuperation and results in less chronic pain. But only severe or persistent conditions are treated in this way. Due to the high level of skill needed and the sensitivity of the area it operates on, it is regarded as the final resort for treating spinal problems. By definition, ESS is a surgical method that uses tiny tubular systems and micro-sized incisions (less than an inch) along with an endoscope to view the operating region. Although endoscopic surgical techniques are frequently used to treat other body parts (such as the gastrointestinal system), improvements in optics, tissue visualisation, and spinal imaging have made ESS a surgical treatment option for many patients.
